Respite

Respite in adult day care provides temporary relief for caregivers by offering a safe, supervised environment for their loved ones during the day. This allows caregivers to rest, work, or manage personal responsibilities while ensuring the participant receives social interaction, care, and support in a structured setting.

Benefits of Respite

Many family members provide care for their loved ones but do not consider themselves caregivers. If you are helping with rides to the doctor, shopping and cooking, paying the bills, grooming and bathing, housekeeping, or managing medications (just to name a few), you are absolutely a caregiver. More than 53 million US adults care for a spouse, elderly parent or relative. However, spouses a the largest group of caregivers. Most are also older, and have their own health problems. It is important that these individuals do not forget to take care of themselves, as well as their loved ones. There are tremendous benefits to adult day care, including:

  • providing physical and mental breaks for the regular caregiver

  • preventing caregiver burnout

  • helping the elderly person stay in their home for longer

  • reinvigorating a regular caregiver

  • providing variety and stimulation to the elderly person
